Power clean

Gym (men) / Popular

Pull, extend and catch the bar in the front rack.

What coaches agree on

  • Drive your elbows up and forward until the bar rests on your front delts, that's the rack position the whole lift builds toward.
  • Keep the bar traveling in as close and vertical a path as possible, essentially brushing your thighs the whole way up.

Common mistakes

  • Bending the elbows early to row or curl the bar up with the arms, instead of keeping them straight and driving with the hips and legs, is one of the most common faults; the arms should only whip around into the rack after the hips, knees, and ankles are fully extended.
