Defending elbows and knees

Muay Thai

Block elbows and stop knees at close range.

What coaches agree on

  • Fight for inside control of your opponent's arm at the bicep or elbow joint in the clinch, so they can't free it to throw an elbow.
  • The instant a knee starts to rise, post a straight arm or palm into the chest or neck to stop it and break their balance.

  • Block an incoming knee with your own knee on the same side, turning it into the opponent's thigh.
