Footwork

Muay Thai

Marching rhythm and stepping to create kicking angles without bouncing.

What coaches agree on

  • Push off the ball of your foot to move, rather than stepping flat-footed โ€” that same springy push also powers your strikes and kick checks.
  • Step out at an angle instead of straight in โ€” angling your foot opens your hips so your kick or strike lands clean and puts you in a stronger position.

Common mistakes

  • A very common error is stepping with the wrong foot first โ€” leading with the front leg going forward, or letting the back leg creep in before you've moved sideways โ€” which narrows your stance and leaves you off balance.
