Bajada

Padel / Popular

Attack off the back glass and turn defence into offence.

What coaches agree on

  • As soon as you're lobbed, hustle back to the glass with quick, small steps and angle to the side of the ball's path -- not straight behind it -- so you meet the ball out in front of your body with room to swing.
  • Prepare every bajada the same way, whether you're going to hit it or fake a lob instead, so your opponents can't read which one is coming until the last moment.

  • Since you can't see the opponents while you're running back, your partner should call out where they're standing so you know what shot to play.

Common mistakes

  • Reaching for extra pace with an outstretched arm or heavy wrist action, instead of keeping the paddle compact and close to the body, causes most of the unforced errors on this shot.
