Glass defense

Padel / Popular

Read wall rebounds and defend after the ball hits the back or side glass.

What coaches agree on

  • Get your racket back early, before the ball even bounces, so you're ready the instant it comes off the glass.
  • Move your feet to get behind the ball so contact happens out in front of your body, not behind it.

  • Decide early whether to take the ball before the glass or let it rebound: play it before if it's landing deep near the back, or let it come off the glass if it's landing in the front section.

Common mistakes

  • Swinging hard and fast at the ball off the glass, when a short, controlled push is enough because the wall has already given it pace.
  • Going for a risky, low-percentage shot β€” a big lob or a tight angle β€” under pressure off the glass instead of simply blocking it back.
  • Avoiding the glass altogether by half-volleying or volleying everything out of discomfort, instead of trusting the wall and letting the ball rebound.
