Downward-Facing Dog Alignment

Yoga / Popular

Set up and align the foundational inversion to protect wrists and lengthen the spine.

What coaches agree on

  • Spread your fingers wide and root down through your knuckles, pressing especially through the base of your index finger and thumb to take the pressure off your wrists.
  • Roll your upper arms outward and let your shoulder blades slide down your back, away from your ears.

  • Bend your knees as much as you need to lengthen your spine and bring your chest toward your thighs — your heels reaching the floor is not required.
