Lift

Badminton / Popular

Lift from the front court to reset rallies or move opponents backward.

What coaches agree on

  • Keep a loose, relaxed grip and tighten your fingers only as you strike the shuttle.
  • Disguise the lift as a different shot - usually an early net shot - and hold that disguise until the last possible moment before generating power quickly through your fingers and thumb.
  • Play a higher, safer lift to reset the rally when you are under pressure, and a flatter, more attacking lift when you are in control and want to pressure your opponent.

Common mistakes

  • Leaning back onto your heels while hitting a lift causes mistimed, weak shots - keep your weight moving forward through the shot.
