Manage pressing volume, scapular control, and rotator cuff accessory work.

What coaches agree on

  • Pull your shoulder blades back and down — not shrugged up toward your ears — as your base position for pressing, raising, and rotator-cuff exercises.
  • Start shoulder mobility, accessory, and rehab work light or easy, and only add load, depth, or difficulty gradually as it gets comfortable.

Common mistakes

  • Letting your lower back arch to make up for tight shoulders, instead of moving through your upper back and shoulder blades, is a common cheat that strains the low back and blunts the stretch.
  • Assuming pressing and pulling exercises alone are enough to train your rotator cuff and scapular stabilizers (serratus anterior, lower traps) is a common gap — left untrained directly, these muscles stay weak and get overpowered by bigger muscles like the delts and traps.
