Roundhouse kick

Muay Thai

Hip rotation, shin contact and follow-through for body and head kicks.

What coaches agree on

  • Push off your standing foot and pivot it all the way so your hip can turn fully into the kick.
  • As you kick, whip your same-side arm down for power while your other hand stays up to guard your head.

  • Land the strike with your shin for a solid, bone-on-bone hit.

Common mistakes

  • The shoulders and head often stay square or lean backward instead of turning through with the hip, which drains the kick's power.
