Side-Lying Leg Series

Pilates / Popular

Work hips and outer thighs while stabilizing the torso.

What coaches agree on

  • Keep the moving leg long and actively reaching throughout every rep - think of pressing your foot into a wall - rather than just lifting and dropping it.
  • The high-elbow position and the flat, arm-down position are interchangeable ways to start the series; use whichever keeps your neck and shoulder comfortable.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the hips roll back, the waist sink into the mat, or the torso tip forward or back, instead of keeping the whole torso still and the hips stacked so only the leg moves.
  • Using momentum to fling or flop the leg through a fast, big swing instead of moving slowly through a smaller, controlled range.
