Falling leaf

Snowboarding / Popular

Slide down on one edge to build edge control and confidence.

What coaches agree on

  • Steer side to side by looking and shifting your weight toward the direction you want to go, then return to even weight before you reverse to the other side.
  • Edge pressure controls your speed — dig the edge in harder to slow down or stop, ease off it to keep sliding.

  • Start from a knees-bent stance with your weight centered and your hands forward over the board before you begin sliding.

Common mistakes

  • Sticking mostly to the heel edge because it's more comfortable, and under-practicing the harder toe edge.
  • Letting your weight drift onto the edge you're not riding — heels dropping while you're on your toes, or toes dropping while you're on your heels — which catches that edge and pulls you into a fall.

Falling Leaf on a Snowboard

Coach's take: Solid intro, a bit thin — good for the 'aha' moment, not enough reps to build the habit.
