Fully supported poses for rest and recovery.

What coaches agree on

  • Prop yourself up with bolsters, blocks, blankets, or household stand-ins like books and folded towels, and adjust the height and placement until your body is fully supported with no muscular effort — the right setup looks different for everybody.
  • Direct your breath into the specific area you're opening, and use each exhale to soften and release a little more there.
  • Hold each shape for several minutes rather than moving through poses quickly — many coaches suggest at least five minutes, up to 15 or 20, per pose.

Common mistakes

  • Tensing up and resisting an intense sensation, or forcing yourself deeper into a stretch or twist, only makes it more intense; the fix these coaches teach is to simply observe the sensation without reacting and let gravity, not muscle, open the shape.
