Double leg takedown

Brazilian jiu-jitsu / Popular

Shoot, penetrate and finish the double leg.

What coaches agree on

  • Get your opponent reacting first — with a snap-down, a push-pull, or a grip fight — before you commit to the shot.
  • Drop your level by bending your knees so your hips sink below your opponent's before you shoot.
  • Wrap your arms around the legs at or below the knee when you're driving through the takedown.
  • Once you've got the legs, get up on your feet and walk or drive them down with your steps — it can take several strides.

Common mistakes

  • Driving straight ahead when your opponent resists, sprawls, or you're heading into their guard lets them stall or scramble away — cut an angle to the side instead.
