Shadow Boxing

Boxing / Popular

Drill technique, rhythm, and movement without equipment.

What coaches agree on

  • Picture a specific opponent in front of you and react to the punches, feints, and movement you imagine them throwing.
  • Give each round a specific focus — a punch, a defensive move, or a footwork pattern — before you start throwing.

  • Exhale sharply as you throw each punch and stay relaxed between shots.

Common mistakes

  • Standing in one spot and only throwing punches, without moving the feet or working defense and counters back, so shadow boxing becomes one-way offense instead of a real exchange.
