How to stop slicing

Golf / Popular

Diagnose an open face and out-to-in path, and fix the ball flight.

What coaches agree on

  • Practice with a drill — an alignment stick, a head cover, or a ball placed just behind the clubhead — that rewards swinging the club into the ball from inside the target line instead of across it.

Common mistakes

  • A weak grip, especially a trail hand that sits on top of the club instead of to the side, leaves the clubface open through impact.
  • Trying to square the clubface with a late flip of the hands right at the ball, or by turning the body instead, leaves no time to actually close it before impact.

Coach's take: Different cause than the usual slice video -- sequencing, not just path -- worth it if the standard fixes haven't worked for you.
